Two Burgers That Make Mondays Better

Two Burgers That Make Mondays Better

BY TAMARA PALMER

I’m grateful to Selby’s for extending an invitation to experience a playful new Monday night special called Burgers & Burgundy, which offers two different burgers and a chance to try a rotating selection of what the restaurant calls “unicorn Burgundy wines.”

The burgers are what enticed me most to go check it out — I knew how good they are at owner Bacchus Management’s San Francisco restaurant, Spruce, and my high expectations were exceeded. Each burger comes with a significantly different price tag, and they’re both well worth trying.

Despite my routine exposure to great wine in the course of my work, I admittedly don’t write much about it or have much of an aptitude or vocabulary for it, but I could feel the thoughtfulness of the pairings and the wine was luscious.

The restaurant offers a different Burgundy flight each Monday ($28) as well as glasses of rarities that are usually only offered by the bottle here.

If the picture up top makes you feel as lusty as it makes me, you’ll want to order your burger medium rare.

Set in what looks like a two-story mansion from the outside, Selby’s is a beautiful and elegant room to dine in, and I look forward to returning to try more of the menu, which features a lot of classic decadence.
