Tartine's Manufactory Lands in Los Angeles
BY TAMARA PALMER
San Francisco’s popular Tartine Bakery/Tartine Manufactory debuted the first phase of a new 40,000-square-foot location at ROW DTLA in Los Angeles on January 29, with the full location due to be open next week on February 12. I happen to be working in LA this week, so I had to check it out!
I swung by this afternoon, when the Coffee Manufactory window was open, so I had to eat pastries, soft serve ice cream and a matcha latte for lunch. (Yeah, poor me.) A new restaurant concept called Tartine Bianco (outdoor seating pictured above) serves dinner in the evenings and will eventually be open during the day as well, while an all-day Market will be open next week.
The window is definitely the place to go if you want to get a loaf of the storied Tartine bread without waiting in the daily line that forms in San Francisco. It’s located in the same complex as Smorgasburg, which takes place on Sundays. And the Bay Area takeover of ROW DTLA is serious; besides Tartine, Dandelion Chocolate recently made its pop-up shop there permanent, and SF chef Melissa Perello will open her first Southern California restaurant M. Georgina there at some point.
