Sushi, But Make It Gelato

Sushi, But Make It Gelato

If you hit up the to-go freezers at the two Los Angeles area locations of Rome’s Fatamorgana Gelato in Beverly Hills and Studio City, you’ll find something super cute to consider: sushi gelato!

While the box doesn’t come with a flavor key to identify everything definitively, some of the rolls include gelato flavors like Mexican chocolate, basil, mango and strawberry (with fillings like crunchy passionfruit or mint) and are generally more tame than some of the crazier flavors in the case, such as black zapote and cherry tomatoes. There’s also an all-vegan option for the same price (which is $15 for eight pieces).

This was the perfect dessert after a sushi lunch nearby — Ventura Boulevard in Studio City is a particular hotbed of good sushi joints (I like Asanebo and Kazu).

If you’re eating your sushi gelato with the provided chopsticks right at the shop, be forewarned: they melt quickly, and you’ll be up against the clock. Likewise, if you’re bringing them to a dinner party (which would make you one of the coolest people in the world), make sure that everyone gets in there fast.
