El Garage Needs Help to Open Quesabirria Restaurant

California Eating Issue 4 cover star El Garage has posted a GoFundMe in order to raise $25,000 to get to the final stretch of opening a restaurant in Richmond.

“It was a bit tough looking for loans since we didn't have any prior official business records,” the Montano family wrote in the fundraising text. “I guess working from your own garage and having guests eat in your driveway doesn’t count as official haha, but we were able to secure a loan, unfortunately though it will not be enough for all costs.”

They mention that some of their popular pop-ups have gotten canceled or shut down due to “haters” calling various city health departments — those BBQ Beckys have my forever disdain for doing that to this hardworking and talented family. Luckily, they plan on continuing with pop-ups (including Off The Grid Fort Mason Center in San Francisco) once the restaurant is open.

”Imagine this,” they wrote, “a cool El Garage concept restaurant with all the things inside done by us its a 5,000sq ft place imagine it with the best music bumping pa’ bailar, an arcade to take turns on while y’all wait in line and most importantly some of The Best Mexican Street Food around is whats coming your way!”
